We can provide all autotransfusion capital equipment. We can provide disposables to your program; meeting your specific needs. We have excellent relationships with all of the major perfusion equipment and disposable providers allowing us to provide you quality products at very competitive rates.
What is Autotransfusion?
Autotransfusion (wiki) is the safe replacement of your lost blood with more of your own blood. How is this done? There are three different ways to do this:
- Before surgery: Scheduling appointments and donating your own blood for "autologous blood." This blood will be stored and reinfused during or after surgery. The body will replace blood cells between donations.
- During surgery: Your blood lost during surgery may be saved, washed, and replaced during surgery, this process is called cell saving. Many orthopedic surgeries lose little blood during surgery but a good amount may be lost following the surgery.
- After surgery: A wound drain is placed in most orthapedic patients to reduce swelling, bruising, and risk of infection. These drains are a vital aid to the healing process. Blood collected from a drain can be reinfused into the patient during recovery.
We also feature the OrthoPAT³ System which applies a gentle vacuum to the wound drain. The blood collected is then filtered and washed. Any excess blood is returned to the patient after washing and separated by the machine and sent into its own bag. When enough blood is collected it is reinfused back to the patient.
The OrthoPAT³ System is designed to return your lost blood to circulation quickly and effciently. This is a flawless match because your own blood is easily taken by your body.
