What is Platelet Rich Plasma

An Autologous Platelet Gel (APG) was created in the early 90's as a byproduct of multicomponent pheresis.  When thrombin and calcium is mixed with the platelet concentrate, a viscous coagulum (gel) is quickly formed.  Early success led to deeper applications where severe blood loss typically did not occur.

Platelets and Growth Factors

Research has shown improvement of in-vitro tissue cultures by combining platelets since 1982.  Platelet derived wound healing factor (PDWHF), a product of activated platelets have shown to improve wound healing in animal studies and non-healing wounds in humans.
